Artist Statement
As I have continued working on my art career, I have found a love for graphic design. As I continued my education into the graphic design field, I have discovered that there are so many different possibilities in graphic design. It is hard to find what I like best, but one thing I really enjoy doing is creating graphics for a brand. Along with branding, I have found that I like User Interface design as well as editing videos. I am a very detail oriented and organized person, therefore branding, user interface design, and editing videos fits perfectly with my personality.
The few branding projects I have done include the architecture brand, water bottle brand, and the makeup brand project on my portfolio website. For the architecture brand, I wanted to create a company located within Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Therefore, the color palate, the style of the logo and letterhead set all resemble the type of architecture that is located within Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The water bottle brand was a different approach in understanding the science behind water and how beneficial it is for your health. The name DNA fit perfectly with the idea of the science of water and how it is beneficial for your well-being. Finally, for the makeup brand Beut, I wanted to give off a vintage aesthetic. Makeup is a classic and timeless product that often gets very modernized. I wanted to create a makeup brand that was a mix of both vintage and modern. The color palate displays the vintage aesthetic along with the name Beut, where the name of what the product is such as foundation, and the repeating pattern is a more modern look. Within each of these branding projects, I have wanted to capture a niche and make them stand out from the rest.
What I love about user interface design is being able to layout all the elements of an app or website and prototyping them, so they can work. The app I created was Beer Cart Pro. This app was special to me as I work as a beer cart girl during the summertime at a golf course. My course is old fashioned, and we can only take cash as a form of payment while on the cart and keep track of inventory on a sheet of paper. To solve this problem, I created an app that can track an order, start a tab, allow credit cards to be used as a form of payment, track inventory and even how many tips you have made that day. I came up with the entire app on my own and while it still could use some improvements, I am proud of how far it has come.
I have been editing videos for quite some time now. As a freshman in college, I got a job in the marketing department at Siena Heights University. My main job there is to edit videos for the University, whether that is interviews, virtual tour footage, or a big event happening on campus. Throughout the years, I have learned so much about Adobe Premiere and how to edit videos professionally. I have even learned how to use the video camera and set up the microphones for interviews. Especially now, in the times of Covid and TikTok, everything is resorting to video. I think that having had this job for quite some time has tremendously helped me advance my career by learning how to efficiently use Adobe Premiere. Many companies are looking to hire someone who knows how to edit videos and I believe I could be a huge asset to a company with these skills.
I always look to improve on my designs and always accept feedback from my peers to push my designs a step further. As an artist, you are never truly done designing and looking to improve your artwork. As I gain more experience and have more projects to work on, I believe my design skills will be at a whole other level.
